Dr. Jason Low, Associate Professor in the School of Psychology, is looking for a Research Assistant to work on studies related to his Marsden-funded project on the cognitive and sensorimotor processes underpinning theory-of-mind (social cognition) ability. Key responsibilities include assisting the research team with preparing focused literature/theoretical reviews; designing stimuli and tasks to measure human adults’ mental-state tracking, action responses and reaction times; recruiting participants; collecting, coding and entering data; and providing roving research support as required.

The role requires a Bachelors or related degree in Psychology. Having background or experience in experimental approaches to psychological research on theory-of-mind cognition is essential. Evidence of skills in image processing and video editing, with an understanding of basic statistics, is also necessary. The ideal candidate must have excellent organisational and interpersonal skills along with a proven ability to work independently and as part of a team, so as to handle multiple simultaneous demands and work to a tight schedule. Familiarity with statistical software packages, as well as evidence of programming skills or a strong willingness to independently learn new tech skills, are desirable.

This position is ideally suited for a recent undergraduate who wants experience in a theory-of-mind research lab prior to applying for postgraduate study in this specific area.

The position is part-time from 30 March 2020 to 30 March 2021.
