Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role

Te Herenga Waka - Victoria University of Wellington is currently recruiting for a fixed term full time Teaching Fellow to join the School of Nursing, Midwifery, and Health Practice in 2022.

Are you a registered nurse who is interested in exploring a role in nursing education in the tertiary sector? The School of Nursing, Midwifery, and Health Practice is seeking expressions of interest from registered nurses with a Postgraduate Qualification to work as a teaching fellow for HLTH 550 Transition to Professional Nursing Practice. This position is part-time, fixed term from September 2022 to September 2023. This position is based at our Wellington Hospital campus, with some required travel within the lower North Island.

It is expected that successful applicants will meet the below selection criteria:

  • Engaged in Masters level study or beyond.
  • Holds an Annual Practicing Certificate (Nursing).
  • Outgoing personality and an interest in the support and development of students.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Well organised and reliable.
  • Ability to work as a team member of a team that includes academics & professional staff.
  • Ability to conduct face to face and online teaching.
  • All applicants must be eligible to work in NZ and hold a relevant work visa.

Ō pūmanawa - About you

You will thrive in this role with an excellent manner with people, strong attention to detail, and self-management skills.

You will be a highly organised self-starter and natural relationship builder, who relishes working autonomously as well as contributing positively to a high performing team. You will have excellent written and oral communications skills in English and are able to demonstrate strong interpersonal skills especially across cultures.

You will hold an appropriate qualification in a health-related discipline with a relevant research publication record and platform. You must be a NZ registered nurse with a current practising certificate and have the proven ability to teach in one or more areas of research-based practice.

Key Requirements:

  • Commitment to teaching with academic rigour and to promoting students’ learning in the midwifery discipline in general and in your specialist area. Successful teaching, as evidenced by peer and student.
  • Developing and maintaining a high standard of learning and teaching through professional development initiatives such as regularly seeking feedback and evaluation of your teaching practice and using this to review and update your teaching practice.
  • Conducting learning and teaching in accordance with University policy, including assessment, course co-ordination and course.
  • Regularly reviewing courses to ensure continuing relevance and incorporation of new.
  • Where possible, incorporating Māori and Pasifika perspectives in course content and teaching.
  • Familiarity with innovation in learning and teaching practice and technology and adoption of new technologies and other appropriate innovations in support of teaching.
  • Contributing to innovations in learning, teaching and assessment within the discipline and more widely across the University, including demonstrating digital fluency.
