Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role

Te Herenga Waka - Victoria University of Wellington is currently recruiting a Senior Applications Software Developer to join the Te Tai Matihiko - Digital Solutions (DS) team. This is a fixed-term role until the end of 2024 and works within DS in the Applications Group. The Applications Group is responsible for the development and management of the University’s core applications including the student academic focused applications.

Digital Solutions delivers and supports DS services to a diverse student body of over 20,000 and a staff of 2,500 located over 3 campuses.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide functional and technical consultation, investigation and analysis of requirements and issues. Consult on all aspects of relevant technologies and develop towards being a subject matter expert (SME) in at least 4 other key DS system areas.
• Develop, maintain and troubleshoot and provide high quality solutions in multi-platform IT environments within an Agile (scrum) framework.
• Undertake unit and peer testing including the creation of testing scripts and/or facilities.
• Maintain and develop technical currency (by actively participating in user group, vendor and technology forums and availing themselves of other resources).
• Contribute to DS projects in accordance with the project methodology guidelines as outlined by the DS Programme Management Office.
• Create documentation as required, including technical specification and deployment steps, and ensure it is maintained according to DS standards.

Your ability to communicate with other members of the team including business analysts, testers and system administrators will also be fully utilised in this role.

We are looking for a Senior Applications Software Developers with good commercial development experience using technologies such as Oracle SQL, PLSQL, Microsoft stack (Dynamics 365, NET, Visual Studio, Azure), and Java.

Additionally, any of the following skills would be a bonus:

• Experience with Reporting Framework Jasper Reports.
• Experience with applying and using a variety of web tools and technologies such as CGI scripts, JavaScript, JSON, JQuery, MVC, DOM, AJAX, REST, and Web Services.
• Exposure to an Agile software development methodology.
• Exposure to source control processes and tools (e.g. SVN, JIRA,Git).
• Experience with application integration.
