Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role

Te Herenga Waka - Victoria University of Wellington is currently recruiting a Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Animation and Visual Effects to join the School of Design Innovation. The position calls for a strong design portfolio with a focus on general animation. You will also bring a reputation and profile as an accomplished researcher or professional with the capability to contribute to the leadership of the ANFX major.

Ō pūmanawa - About you

You are passionate about teaching and learning a diverse range of students and appreciate the importance of Ako (reciprocal teaching and learning) to this environment. You will be familiar with contemporary discourse and demands in the field of Animation and Visual Effects, with production expertise as a 3D generalist or other aspects of animation. A specialisation and evidence of success in one or more of the following is preferred:

  • Mātauranga Māori and/or Oceania Knowledge
  • Technical Arts
  • Filmmaking

However, we are open to applications from a wide range of candidates that may contribute to researching and teaching in this area.

An appreciation for the both the fundamental and advanced requirements of Animation and Visual Effects as a part of the discipline of design will help you thrive in this role. As well as an appreciation of industry connections and opportunities to collaborate and enhance student successes and experiences. You will engage with allied majors, in particular Communication and Game Design and be encouraged to share and scaffold knowledge across the other relevant majors in the School of Design Innovation. A collaborative and open approach to teaching and learning will give you opportunities of growth and diversity. You will also encourage a collaborative and supportive environment.

Key Requirements:

  • Relevant qualifications or industry experience commensurate with the seniority of this role or a completed PhD in a relevant field experience.
  • An established track record in research publication and/or creative work.
  • Demonstrated evidence of a high standard of teaching in a relevant field at tertiary level or relevant industry experience.
  • Ability to work with students and staff from a diverse range of backgrounds.
