Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role

Te Herenga Waka - Victoria University of Wellington is currently recruiting for the sixth Te Pātaka Toi - Adam Art Gallery Internship. This internship enables a recent graduate, postgraduate student or early-career art professional to work with the Gallery to develop research skills and knowledge relating to collecting, curatorial practice, exhibition making, communications and public programming through their involvement in the planning and delivery of aspects of the Gallery’s work.

Key responsibilities:

A work plan will be developed with the successful applicant based on the specific aspect of the Gallery’s work best suited to the applicant’s interests and abilities. This is likely to entail:

  • Research towards an exhibition and associated events that will be released in 2024/25 at the Adam Art Gallery.
  • The preparation of writing about artists and artworks which will feed into our website and communications relating to an exhibition, wall texts, publications, etc.
  • Research towards public programmes, such as talks, seminars, screenings, performances, or other related events.
  • Liaison with artists, their representatives, other organisations, and professional colleagues.

Ō pūmanawa - About you

You will have an interest in exhibition making and the mechanisms which go into running a gallery and are looking for a learning opportunity. We are looking for someone who is interested in working with the Adam Art Gallery team to deliver its collecting, exhibition, public and publications programmes as an introduction to curatorial work within the art gallery sector.

Key Requirements:

  • A degree in Art History, preferably Honours or above. Other relatable disciplines will be considered.
  • An interest in and working knowledge of art galleries and a strong interest in the work they undertake.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Confident speaker in group and public situations.
