Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role

Te Herenga Waka—Victoria University of Wellington is currently recruiting a permanent full-time Employer Relations Consultant, who will be located in the Careers and Employment team.

An exciting position for an agile, proactive professional, this role will offer you a fast-paced and collaborative work environment. You will be responsible for maintaining strong relationships with employers and promoting Te Herenga Waka—Victoria University of Wellington as a preferred source of graduates for employment in New Zealand and overseas.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Proactively establish, develop, grow and maintain good working relationships with a range of employers to understand their recruitment needs.
  • Advise employers regarding recruitment, internship programmes, salaries, part-time work and specific vacancies suitable for students and graduates.
  • Liaise with the NZUni Talent staff to develop and grow employers using the job board.
  • Manage relationships with school and faculty staff as needed within the university to promote internships and work experience opportunities.
  • Identify trends in recruitment, employment and the labour market.
  • Oversee the planning and organisation of employer events, including hosting.
  • Promote Careers and Employment services and NZUni Talent (and associated opportunities) to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Oversee approval of job vacancies in NZUni Talent, cross checking they met the needs of our specific student groups.
  • Compile monthly, quarterly, and annual statistics on graduate recruitment and employer engagement and produces regular reports.
  • Contribute content for social media and website as required.

Ō pūmanawa - About you

With an interest in careers and employability, you will have proven experience in building and maintaining relationships with employers, or a demonstrated track record of strong business outcomes in a similar recruitment or business development role.

Knowledge of current trends in job search and recruitment strategies is useful. You may be a recruiter seeking a role without the pressure of KPIs and sales targets, but with the satisfaction of connecting employers with our students and graduates, however, we welcome people from a variety of backgrounds.

Your outgoing nature will allow you to readily share insights with team members and colleagues at the University.

Key Requirements:

  • Tertiary qualification.  
  • Experience in the use of Microsoft Office, social media and online databases. 
  • Experience in event planning and project management. 
  • Understanding of groups underrepresented in the workforce, Equal Employment Opportunities and the principles of the Te Tiriti o Waitangi / The Treaty of Waitangi.
